Introducing Leeton’s very own Town Band

Leeton Town Band

There aren’t many community events you go to without spotting the Leeton Town Band, and the Australian Art Deco Festival Leeton is no exception!

The Leeton Town Band is a diverse group of talented members who play any woodwind, brass or percussion instruments. The band caters for players (and players-to-be) from around the age of 7 to over 80. There is a junior and senior band, as well as a blues band which was formed by members of the senior band.

Introducing Leeton's very own Town Band

The revival of the Leeton Town Band, after 42 years in recession, reformed in 2006. Ruth Tait, a local piano teacher, called for expressions of interest to resurrect the town band so held a public meeting at the Leeton Roxy Community Theatre. After receiving an overwhelming response at the meeting, the new Leeton Town Band was formed and has been thriving ever since!

The band’s first public outing was at the ANZAC service in Leeton in April 2007.  The welcome and support the band received on that day, and from then on, is a measure of the appreciation of the people of Leeton and surrounds.

Leeton Town Band has organised a highly successful ‘Outback Band Spectacular’ in November for the last 11 years. The Outback Band Spectacular attracts bands and individual performers from as far as Sydney, Canberra as well as many regional centres. The event has become a highlight of the Leeton Community as well as on the NSW Band Association calendar.

Locally, Leeton Town band can be seen at many public performances on public holidays (Australia Day, Anzac Day etc), giving free concerts at aged care facilities in Leeton and Narrandera as well as charitable and social events.  We hope you enjoy seeing and hearing Leeton Town Band play at the Art Deco Festival!

The Town Band will be performing throughout the Chelmsford Place Markets on Saturday 13 July.
